In preparation for the honorary award ceremony we had to make sure that Leymah Gbowees daughter Jaydyn was well taken care of.

Filmfestival director Irene Jung introduces for the first time the honorary award of TERRE DES FEMMES Film Festival «Womens Worlds» for „Courageous Commitment to Human Rights for Women“ to be given to Leymah Gbowee and Hana Makhmalbaf

Christa Stolle, executive director of TERRE DES FEMMES, holds the honorific speech for Leymah Gbowee, who was honored for her commitment to fight sexualised violence against women and to find peaceful solutions for warlike conflicts in Africa and presents the certificate to Leymah

Leymah Gbowee thanks for the honor and explains: “It is important for every one of us to keep in mind: as long as even one single woman experiences violence, no woman on earth is truly free. As long as even one single woman experiences violence, no community is truly free and as long as even one single woman experiences violence, men can not boast to be free, either.”

  The audience applauds.
Subsequently, film festival director Irene Jung holds the honorary speech for Hana Makhmalbaf, in recognition for her commitment to human rights for women in Iran and Afghanistan. In her 13-year long career as a filmmaker she has continuously denounced violence against women and girls, even though this often proved to be a quite dangerous undertaking.

Irene Jung presents the award to Hana Makhmalbaf, who then explains in her acceptance speech:

”I'm 21 years old. In four years I will be 25. Why am I talking about the number 25? It's the 25th international award I receive, but for other people it will remind them of 25 years of prison in the Islamic Republic of the dictatorship of Iran. I want to dedicate this award with all my respect and love to Mr. Amir Entezam, who has been prisoner of that dictatorship without having committed any sin. And if these days I and my generation can even think of freedom, it is because of the 25 years of resistance in prison - it means, more than my age - of people like Mr. Amir Entezam.”

Baby Jaydyn is present after the award ceremony by the side of her mother for a photo with the awardees.
