9th Film Festival Women's Worlds
from November 19 to 25, 2009 in Tuebingen, Germany


Scene from the movie 'Storm'Fascinating guests joined the 9th edition of „Women’s Worlds“, a.o. Hana Makhmalbaf, famous film director from Iran and youngest award winner ever at Venice Film Festival, as well as the impressive peace activist Leymah Gbowee from Liberia. Both women were honoured with the Filmfest Award for „Courageous Commitment to Human Rights of Women“.

Our main thematic focus "Matriarchy – today?" received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response by the audience, especially Leymah Gbowee was recognized as a true heiress of matriarchy in her fight for women's rights in the war-torn regions of Africa.

Hana Makhmalbaf dedicated her award to one of the oldest political prisoners in Iran: Mr. Amir-Entezam, whose more than 25 years of resistance in prison made it possible, that her generation in Iran today could even think about freedom.
