Roundtable Conversation on the topic „Women in Precarious Working Conditions“

After the two documentaries “Aufstand der Putzfrauen” and “Ich war eine Schleckerfrau” three experts will discuss the topic Women in Precarious Working Conditions: Monika Schäfer (Director „Aufstand der Putzfrauen“), Margrit Paal (volunteer of the multi-service trade union Ver.di with over 2 million members) and Heike Hänsel (Member of the German Parliament Bundestag and speaker for topics of development policies).

Key discussion points include:
How have the conditions for low-wage workers in Germany changed in the last 10 years, especially in sectors where typically women work and, therefore, are typically poorly paid. What role does outsourcing play? Looking out from Tübingen towards the rest of the world: how have the conditions changed in low-wage countries? For example: in Bangladesh, where, not for the first time, we’ve seen horrific news reports of hundreds of workers dying in burning factories. In the globalised world economy, how is the development of work and wage conditions in the low-wage sector in industrialised and developing countries related? What role do international trade policies play? What role do we play? What can we do? As workers, citizens, consumers...?
Each of the experts will illuminate the issues from her unique perspective. Following the discussion there will be the opportunity for exchange between the panel participants and the public over dignified working conditions that also allow the economic survival of workers.
