Naïla Chikhi

She taught German as a foreign- and second-language for migrants, in literacy courses and work-related integration courses. She acted as an adviser for people who are interested in the courses, and earned the examiners licences for different language levels and the language test for naturalisation. In the centre of her teaching were the support of independence/self-employment and the developing of competence of the individual and the group to be able to develop freely in our society. Thereby her language and intercultural competences, as well as her personal life experiences in the integration and naturalisation process in Germany benefitted her work.

Since June 2016, she works at TERRE DES FEMMES as an expert for Refugee Women‘s Rights, and additionally as the project coordinator of CONNECT. CONNECT is a three year project that is for adult refugee women, who, regardless of their legal status, are currently living in Berlin. It has the aim to support women at their arrival in Germany and to accompany them during their integration process. The goal is to enable them to lead a self-determined and free life in Germany. On the other hand, the project is directed at women who were born in Germany or are already successfully integrated in Germany, and would like to undertake a voluntary godparenthood for at least one year long. The future godmothers are to be informed on general assistance regarding the Berlin structures of support in cases of gender specific violence and they also should be sensitized for gender specific forms of violence
