Andrea Testa, Argentinia, 2019, 66 min., documentary film, OV with english subtitles
MOTHER-CHILD portrays young, pregnant girls in a public hospital in Argentina who have to rearrange their lives. Some of them are already mothers, for others the process is completely new. In touching shots, topics such as love, prejudices, expectations, domestic violence and family support alternate. The subject of abortion is also discussed repeatedly. Many of the girls have learned from childhood on that it is their own fault if they become pregnant and that they have to bear the consequences alone. Abortions are still illegal in Argentina – even after rape – and lead to clandestine practices that are life-threatening for the girls.
