Old photographs of Arctic expeditions usually show men with thick beards wearing heavy fur clothing. But this image of polar exploration is incomplete. The archives contain traces of women who also ventured into the ice\u2014as researchers, photographers, or companions\u2014whose contributions went largely unnoticed for a long time. EISFRAUEN sets out in search of these forgotten stories and asks why women so often remained invisible in the history of Arctic exploration. At the same time, the film turns its gaze to the present: the Arctic still attracts female researchers from various disciplines. Jens Becker and Dorothea Braun combine historical footage with contemporary encounters and tell the stories of women who have carved out their own paths in a world of research that remains male-dominated to this day.<\/h5>
