Festivalimpressions 2017 - Tuesday, 28.11.



The student organisation Querfeldein e.V. hosted a round table with director Alice Schmid

...in which Alice talked about her professional career as a director and her films that led her e.g. to Liberia, Sierra Leone, Bolivia and Nepal.

Alice Schmid is a director and author. Focus point of her cinematographic work is the sensitive portrayal of the day to day life and biographies of children from all over the world.


Following the documentary “City of Joy” there was a discussion with the two experts Ara Stielau and Gisela Schneider.


Ara Stielau is head of the department for projects abroad at medica mondiale e.V. She talked about the work of her organisation, the exploitation of raw materials in the Congo and about the history of her country.


Gisela Schneider is the director for the division advising on international work in the health sector at Difäm. She gave insights into the current situation of the hospital shown in the film and gave an update on the situation of doctor Mukwege, whom she met a couple of weeks ago.

Throughout the week of the festival the exhibition “Rojava - spring of the women” could be seen in the foyer of the “Kino Museum”.

Expert Simone Helmschrott was ready to answer the audience’s questions after the screening of “Reseba - The Dark Wind”.

Among other things Simone Helmschrott was part of the special contingent for women and children from northern Irak that are in need of help which was provided by Baden-Württemberg. She spoke about the work of the special contingent, the current situation of yezidi women and about the criticism from the yezidi community that was shown in the film.

Moreover there was an audience discussion following the documentary “The Poetess”. Our expert guest Collin Schubert was present at the discussion.

Collin Schubert has been active at TERRE DES FEMMES holding lectures and education events since 1999. Within this work she focused on the role of women and the image of women in the Islam. She talked about the current developments in Saudi Arabia in relation to women’s rights.

Max Steinacher spoke about the silent vigil for the Saudi Arabian blogger Raif Badawi, which meets every saturday in front of the Stiftskirche.
 

In the evening Alice Schmid’s latest film „Das Mädchen vom Änziloch“ was shown.

Following the film she talked about the production of the movie and the region in which she lives and the film takes place in.
