GIRLS & GODS

Arash T. Riahi, Verena Soltiz, Austria / Switzerland, 2025, 104 min., documentary, original version with English subtitles. In cooperation with mindjazz pictures

Can feminism and religion coexist, or are they mutually exclusive? Inna Shevchenko, activist and co-founder of the Ukrainian FEMEN movement, talks to female priests, imams, rabbis, theologians, and activists who defend their faith while trying to reconcile it with feminist values.
In her exchanges with them, Inna asks fundamental questions: Why are there no female deities? Why is the female body considered unclean in many religions? And why are men often allowed to make more decisions about women’s bodies and lives than women themselves? A provocative, artful film that addresses the question of whether monotheistic religions can be feminist—and whether feminism can find a place in faith.
