Two films and an accompanying panel discussion shed a powerful light on today’s Afghanistan and the living conditions of Afghan women. In WRITING HAWA, Hawa, who was forced into marriage as a child, fights for education and self-determination – but with the return of the Taliban, her hopes for a secure future for herself and her family are shattered. THE LAST AMBASSADOR shows Manizha Bakhtari, who, despite the international non-recognition of the Taliban, fights tirelessly for the rights of Afghan women and, as Afghanistan’s last ambassador in Vienna, becomes an important voice for women in the country. In the subsequent panel discussion, three prominent Afghan women, moderated by patron Jasmin Tabatabai, talk about the situation in Afghanistan – a powerful appeal not to forget the women there and to continue to actively support them.
