2. Short Film Program: Between Tradition and Self-Determination, with a Reading

How can girls and women make decisions about their own bodies, their futures, and their life paths when traditions and societal expectations impose strict limits? This short film program tells the stories of women who confront such limits, challenge them, and develop their own perspectives. The films shed light on different experiences with female genital mutilation, child marriage, and social change.
A reading by Bilkisu Conteh from her book Strength Is Her Beauty: A Story on Overcoming Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting complements the program by offering a personal perspective on the issue of female genital mutilation and the path to a self-determined life.
