A FAMILY

Christine Angot, France, 2024, 82 min, documentary, OmeU

The award-winning French writer Christine Angot returns to Strasbourg for work and confronts a dark chapter of her past. In the city where her father who abused her as a teenager lived, Angot confronts the painful truth of her childhood. Equipped with a camera, she visits her father’s family to find out their attitude towards the crimes that took place over the years. This captivating documentary confronts viewers with the way society and families deal with the subject of abuse. A FAMILY is a courageous and deeply personal film that also shows that sexualized violence in the family environment, as in Angot’s case, is not an isolated incident.
