Director Lina Soualem traces the past of her mother, Hiam Abbas, an internationally renowned actress who left her hometown in Palestine at a young age to realize her dream. In the process, she also traces her own identity and sheds light on the fate of many Palestinians who have experienced expulsion, flight and exile. With great sensitivity and masterful skill, she weaves together archive footage, family photos, video footage, poems and written documents to trace the lives of the women in her family – women who have dealt with the trauma of their country in their own individual ways.
