What is the cost of standing up for one’s convictions? Danish-Iraqi activist Tamara Amer Nouri has been advocating for women’s rights in Iraq for years. Through her online platform, “Iraqi Women Rights,” she informs women about their rights and encourages them to speak out about violence and social control. But those who break the silence become targets themselves: For years, Tamara has been subjected to threats and harassment, including from her violent ex-husband, from whom she fled with her son. While she fights from Denmark for other women’s self-determination, she is also trying to build an independent life for herself. Anna Bruun Nørager’s debut film follows Tamara as she navigates activism, motherhood, and personal conflicts, revealing the woman behind her public advocacy.
