Chiara Fleischhacker was born in Kassel in 1993. After studying psychology in Freiburg for two years, she began studying directing/documentary film at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2015. During her studies, she made three documentaries and three scenic short films. GOLDEN GIRL was made during a semester abroad at la fémis Paris, WAS BLEIBT as part of the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris training program. The films have not only screened at numerous international film festivals, but have also won several awards. Her documentary KOMMEN UM ZU GEHEN was shown in the series “Bewegtes Leben” by Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, WAS BLEIBT was broadcast on arte, SWR, BR, SR and rbb and in the MDR program UNICATO. In December 2020, she won the Eobanus Hessus writing competition. In 2022, she won the Thomas Strittmatter Prize with the screenplay for VENA; she also received the First Steps Award for the best full-length feature film for VENA in 2024.
