In the cinema and online: The 20th FrauenWelten film festival will be a hybrid festival

Due to the ongoing difficult situation with COVID-19, the Filmfest FrauenWelten will also take place online this year. Together with the festival’s partners, Festival Scope and SHIFT72, a large part of the programme will be realised in digital form. Thus, despite Corona, all interested parties have the opportunity to participate in this year’s festival.

This decision does not change the regular date and the festival on site at the Kulturbrauerei BerlinAs usual, the festival will take place from 28.10. to 04.11. at the cinema in the Kulturbrauerei, where all films of the festival will be screened in the cinema.

The digital version of FrauenWelten will take place parallel to the festival on site from 28.10. to 04.11.

Form 8 October on, the page with the online film programme will be activated here on the website, where you can register, choose films and rent them from the advance booking start and watch the films online during the festival period from 28 October to 4 November.

We will be happy to inform you here and via our newsletter about the exact start of advance sales of our programme.

The hybrid version allows viewers on location in Berlin and throughout Germany to get to grips with this year’s programme selection and themes. At the same time, we would like to give people who cannot attend our festival due to local restrictions access to our films and themes.

The main themes of the festival are this year:

  • Forced marriage and early marriage, a theme which is also at the heart of the work of TERRE DES FEMMES.
  • Equality in the world of work
  • Violence against women.

COVID-19 has shown in recent months that the pandemic is widening the existing differences in gender equality in the world of work worldwide and that violence against women is on the increase. However, the fact that the problem was there before and laid the foundation for the worsening of the situation is evident in the festival’s film programme.

With the Hybrid Festival it will now be possible to further anchor these important issues in the public eye.
