What makes women in countries as diverse as Sri Lanka, Portugal and Morocco dedicate their lives to surfing and face the unpredictable power of the sea, surrender to it? Because one thing is obvious: it’s not about the sport itself, but rather a life-changing experience. Regardless of age, origin and background, surfing for them means above all freedom, self-empowerment and emancipation from stereotypical images of women. From their deep connection with nature and their own bodies, they draw the energy they need to fight for equality with stamina and passion – in sports and society.
