Dounia and the Princess of Aleppo

Marya Zarif/André Kadi, Canada, 2022, 73 min., feature film, OmeU with German dubbing

In the moonlight, pistachio kernels pop and jam is made from rose petals: Aleppo is full of magic and the home of six-year-old Dounia. When the war in Syria reaches her hometown, the little girl sets off with her grandparents, a few black cumin seeds in hand, to find a new home in another world. On the way, many adventures await them. DOUNIA tells in a fairy-tale way and with imaginative pictures from the point of view of a child about war, flight and farewell, but also about the hope for another life.
