Eren

Maria Binder, Germany, 2023, 95 min., documentary, OmeU

The lawyer and human rights defender Eren Keskin has been fighting for women’s rights, for freedom of the press, against torture and sexualized violence in Turkey for over 30 years. With her strong sense of justice, she does not shy away from taboos and shakes the foundations of the Turkish state. The state has long since declared Eren Keskin an enemy of the state, and she faces life imprisonment in more than a hundred criminal cases. It is unclear how much time she has left in freedom. Director Maria Binder accompanied Eren Keskin for several years, creating an intimate and impressive portrait of a woman who does not accept injustice and fights tirelessly for equal rights.
